Wind Energy Policy Agenda Webinar--Noon | 12/12/08

There is still space available for the FREE webinar for Wind Energy Works! members to hear about AWEA's agenda for the new President and Congress.

In 2008, the United States became the largest generator of wind power in the world, producing enough electricity to power the equivalent of over 5 million homes. In 2007, wind power provided 35% of the nation's new electrical generating capacity and spurred critical growth in the hard-pressed U.S. manufacturing sector. Since 2007, more than 50 wind industry manufacturing facilities have been opened, expanded or announced, to create about 11,000 American jobs.

In May 2008, the U.S. Department of Energy released a report outlining the potential for wind energy to provide 20% of the nation's electricity by the year 2030. Studies show that wind power at this level would support 500,000 jobs, save trillions of gallons of water, and achieve global warming benefits comparable to taking 140 million automobiles off the road. No technological breakthroughs are required for wind power to reach this level. What are needed are government policies that reflect a long-term national commitment to clean, domestic renewable energy.

The 20% report is the driver of the wind industry's proposed agenda for the new President and Congress. We would like to share with you an overview of the national policies needed to support the growth of wind power consistent with the 20% vision, and answer your questions. Please join us:
