TED has a series of lectures on Urban Planning, and I wanted to focus on Majora Carter. Carter's speech from 2005 is an entertaining listen, and highlights some really interesting work with green urban renewal.
The group she works with in New York: SSBX (Sustainable South Bronx) has worked to create a "Greenway" in the Bronx to bring green spaces to an urban area (last link provides links to old executive summary).
Also for a tip on how to sell yourself really well as a non-profit entrepreneur check out her "bio-page." (She got herself a Macarthur Grant for bleep's sake!)
Bonus public radio podcast: "Reimaging Environmentalism."
