Hey fellow 505'ers,
Is it just me, or is anyone else having trouble finding the REIS data to crunch?
I am also feeling like there is just enough info that I can't figure out regarding the CBP that I am stuck.
A couple specific questions I have:
1. Do we create a new FIPS field like the one in the lecture slides (I'm assuming this is implicit since it isn't explained)?
2. How do I get my county's REIS SIC and NAICS industry data?
I might be understating my current emotional state, but I am just a bit frustrated.

Hey,
The data I downloaded actually included FIPS codes, here is the process I followed for getting the REIS data:
(these directions are from memory and for the full REIS, not the quick tables version or whatever it is called).
1) on the upper left hand corner of the screen, there are three series you can choose from, one is SIC and one is NAICS, you will want to do each one at a time
2) there are three options to choose for each download (NAICS and SIC)
a) place, choose the option that allows you to pull data from the county level, a pop up box should come up which allows you to choose a state and then the county(ies) you are interested in
b) series, we are interested in the employment series (I don't remember the others, one is income, I think there are a on or two more)
c)years, we are interested in all years for each series
3) After this you can do file -> export to download the data
Hope this helps.
Paul, feel free to email/gchat/call if it still doesn't work for you
