EDAW student competitions: Urban SOS!

EDAW/AECOM, a major international planning, landscape, urban design firm has announced a competition for solutions to problems of distressed urban areas worldwide: Urban SOS: Distressed Cities, Creative Responses. Student teams from urban planning, urban design and related fields involving up to four students may make submissions of interventions required to stabilize challenged urban communities anywhere worldwide. Responses should demonstrate a holistic approach to urban problems, should not be limited to design responses, and should focus on both formal and informal processes that can bring about change.

Semi-finalists will be invited to present at the World Architecture Festival, Barcelona, October 2009. The winning submission will receive a prize equal to US$20,000.

Teams must register by 15 May and submit by 31 July. Semifinalists will be announced in September and will present in November when the winner will be announced. The announcement with details is available at: http://www.edaw.com/urbansos/.
