Equality, its not just for planners

Friday, Nov. 6th @ 3:30 PM
Protest at Rep. Tim Johnson's Office
2004 Fox Drive Champaign, IL

Discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) people is officially sanctioned by the federal government in a whole host of ways. Thanks to the so-called "Defense of Marriage Act" (DOMA), gay couples are denied 1,049 federal benefits offered to straight married couples. It is perfectly legal to harass and fire employees based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. And thanks to the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy, LGBT people can be discharged from the U.S. military for any refusal to remain in the closet.
Thanks to a rejuvenated national movement for LGBT rights which just sent 200,000 people to protest in Washington, D.C., there are bills in Congress to pass an Employment Non-Discrimination Act, to repeal DOMA and to end "Don't Ask Don't Tell".

But the Congressman for our District, Tim Johnson, refuses to sign on to legislation that would benefit the LGBT community. Come out to make your voice heard. Tell him that we won't wait any longer for equal rights!
