Community Development Academy in STL this fall

All, I'm passing along an announcement I received today from MU Extension...

The University of Missouri Extension Community Development Program offers a series of three courses called the Community Development Academy. We would appreciate your involvement and help in spreading the word and getting this information to your colleagues, co-workers, students, or anyone who you know that would benefit from these in-depth, intensive five-day courses.

The academy offers the opportunity for state-of-the-art, hands on training in developing the practical knowledge and skills necessary in the field of community building. To give you an idea of whom the academy is designed for, but not limited to, is a list of organizations that have taken part in this exciting curriculum:

- Not-for-profit organizations

- Urban/rural development

- Regional planning councils

- Extension and outreach programs

- Utilities, telephone and electric cooperatives

- Chambers of commerce

- Local, state and federal government

- Community art/ cultural affairs agencies

- Community betterment and Main Street programs

- Neighborhood associations (housing programs and departments)

- Local health, social services and youth development agencies

- Churches and faith-based organizations

The next academy is taking place this coming September 19-23 at the Mercy Center in St. Louis. Course One: Building Communities from the Grassroots, and Course Three: Creating Capacity for Dynamic Communities are being offered this fall. If cost is a concern, the Littrell-Timmons Scholarship fund makes a limited number of scholarships that covers registration fees. For more information on this please visit: http://extension.missouri.edu/main/giving/littrellbook.aspx

This is a perfect chance to dive into this professional development opportunity (CEU’s are available), as well as get three hours of undergraduate or graduate credit (Graduate students can work towards a certificate in community process). For more information, details and how to register please visit out website at http://muconf.missouri.edu/commdevelopmentacademy.

Thanks for your time and help in promoting this effective and valuable program. We hope that you can share this information with those interested in developing the knowledge and skills necessary for empowering people to build their own futures as well as their communities.

Please let us know if you have any more questions or comments. We also welcome you as a participant and/or visitor at the next CDA in September!

All the Best,
