Task Coach

http://www.taskcoach.org

This is a great little open source task list program that I've been using for the past year. The fact that it's yet another program in addition to Outlook (or whatever other calendar program you use) is defrayed by the fact that's so much more powerful than the built-in task list.

It's organized on a tree structure, and you can add subtasks wherever, with individual due dates and reminders, or you can have them subservient to the due date of the overall task. It will flag things for you and bring them to the top of the list, but doesn't make you deal with popup reminders if you don't want them. You can also easily track time in each "effort" you make - it's a tool for billing if you're a consultant, but could potentially be really useful. Also, I haven't used the feature, but you can install it to a thumb drive so you can take it with you and use it on any computer without installing it.

...a nice alternative for those of us who like Google's services but don't like their privacy issues.

Awesome--thanks Ryan! I've been looking for some sort of task manager for a few weeks now. I'll give this one a shot. Does anybody know of any good task-managing applications for a Blackberry?

Thanks, Ryan. I currently have an inside-out cereal box acting as my task list. It's working OK so far, but perhaps the Task Coach can slowly take its place. :)
