Volunteer opportunities in Champaign

I am passing along a couple of upcoming volunteer opportunities in the City of Champaign, particularly for those who are ready to get into the holiday spirit. These are from an email sent out by the Champaign Center Partnership.

Decorate Downtown Champaign
Friday, November 11, 2011
11:00 AM - 5:00 PM (not required to be there the entire time)
Meet at 34 Main Street (Corner of Walnut and Main Street)

We will be restringing the garlands and wreaths that hang in Downtown and Campustown and installing them throughout the district. The teams of decorators out in the district will be equipped with ladders and wire and the process is very simple. Those at 34 Main Street will be restringing the garlands with new strands of lights.

Downtown Parade of Lights
Saturday, November 26, 2011
Parade at 6:00 PM - Volunteers needed from 4PM - 8PM
Meet at 34 Main Street (Corner of Walnut and Main Street)

We are looking for volunteers to help with a variety of tasks. Examples include staffing intersections, serving as runners for event staff, and assisting event staff with line-up and parade logistics. We have moved the date of the parade up one week from it's usual day in order to avoid the cold weather that is typically associated with this parade. We have also shortened the route so that the sidewalks are more compact with shoppers and visitors. This will lead to a shorter duration for volunteers.
